Colon Cancer Awareness Dr. Baker – Gastroenterologist spoke about the importance of colon cancer screening. In 2013 some 25,000 men and 25,000 women will be diagnosed with this cancer. A colonoscopy test is necessary for men at the age of 45, women by 50 and then every 5-10 years after that. If you have a family history of colon cancer you may need screenings earlier than that. In the years that you do have the test, a hemoccult fecal test should be ordered by your doctor. African Americans run the risk of dying from this cancer because of diet and obesity.
