Also on the show, Glenn Barbour--a playwright whose upcoming show The July Perry Story uncovers an element of Central Florida's chilling past. In November 1920, July Perry, a black man from Ocoee, went to the polls to vote. Within hours of being turned away, a race riot occured that left an estimated 10-60 African Americans dead. As a result, the town of Ocoee became a white-only town for nearly 60 years, according to the 1980 US Census. The July Perry Story can be seen at Mt. Pleasant MBC on Saturday, Feb. 19th.
